Profile
Takahito Murakami (b. 1997) is a PhD candidate in Informatics at the University of Tsukuba and a JSPS Research Fellow (DC1). His research lies at the intersection of Human–Computer Interaction (HCI), computer graphics (CG), and digital fabrication, focusing on interactive and generative systems inspired by biological forms and behavioral principles. He investigates how animal behaviors, collective dynamics, and biological exploration strategies can inform computational systems that support human creativity and design exploration. Rather than reproducing biological morphology alone, his work aims to translate behavioral principles and exploration dynamics found in biological systems into interactive computational processes that enable open-ended creative exploration.
His project Kuchibashi, a biomimetic tweezer inspired by the beak structure of the New Caledonian crow, received 1st prize in the ACM Student Research Competition. Building on this work, his current research explores interactive generative systems in which humans and algorithms collaboratively explore design spaces, drawing inspiration from animal behavior and collective biological dynamics. His broader research goal is to extend biomimicry beyond morphological imitation toward integrating biological behavioral principles with human creative activities and interactive media.
